Greubel Forseys choose who would own them

Greubel Forsey This time, I lost. Not enough money at this CRITICAL junction…period. There are no words I can add…but if I had much more money…I would buy this watch again, and again…one white…asymetrical, the other blue…with the IF diamonds..round, symmetrical. White simply because possibly only 2 exist..8 and 28. The BLUE…its in wg..no platinums. But..it’s still a Greubel Forsey. Arguably the best tourbillon that could be made…if money was no object. I wrote the above yesterday…and...

Dismantling your watch

Dismantling your watch

You must. It is as important as gloves in surgery.  Eyesight in driving a car. This applies to anyone and any person including people who don’t care about silly people who collect useless watches. WHY? Because you become at least 1% wiser if you are already wise, and 90% wiser if you are simply normal. DISMATLING YOUR WATCH No one has asked me about this. Not in over 100 columns or interviews. I myself never did so till 2004, some 30 years after I began keeping my watches carefully and accounting for them. ie Collecting. You must...

Candor Erudite Abnegation

Candor Erudite Abnegation

Candor…I live like that… Erudite..I am unashamed to be accepted, but I have my doubts. Dauntless? No doubt. Abnegation? Erm….rarely. Amity? Above all…I try..always. Divergent? Hits it on the nail…self diagnosis. For me, in and thru my pursuits and beliefs…SURELY. I love the MB&F 6 but the erudite and the abnegation part of me will shed tears as I sell off, maybe the first ever Greubel Forsey single tourbillon to enter the planet’s market for important art pieces of this 21st century…the...

Buying, selling edit watches collected

Buying, selling edit watches collected

Between 2014 to 2015, I did the needful that almost all high end collectors have to do, pruning, editing and harvesting lost chances. I have made very few mistakes in buying. Hence, selling makes it very difficult, soul searching and many calculated risks. For many, it will be misunderstood, until it comes their turn. I sold VERY carefully my Opus, MBF and UN pieces with a certain 99% view to rebuy them, even the same watches. The reasons to sell were never determined by me…but by the chance to acquire the Holy Grail of almost any of...

Jump it up one notch…the tourbillon..it is a door to one life, of many.

Jump it up one notch…the tourbillon..it is a door to one life, of many.

Examining methods used, paths employed by engineers to maintain balance to variants of 2 secs annually by employing a well designed tourbillon device, provided precious insight of life, my own, to be concise. There are just so many ways. To spark deep understanding of how challenging it is to compete against an electronic computer watch, and WIN…it either requires a genteel mix of discipline and drive, or the daring, almost insane gamble of placing 80% of all my money on say…red at roulette. And then 20% on any large unrelated...

Prices for platinum used/preowned Greubel Forsey found (rare and difficult task)

Prices for platinum used/preowned Greubel Forsey found (rare and difficult task)

As it is, we now know that besides the entry $800,000 Marcus platinum brand new pieces in platinum, Greubel Forsey has become the mountain to scale, summit and return. I admit that I scaled 2 brand new and 1 used. On descent, meaning payment…I almost died on the used piece. The new platinums I found were $100,000 sgd less…but that was 2013. Today, I get up to 25 -40 emails on how to find preowned Greubels in platinum…as they are extremely rare and actually more worthy of the finish. Especially an asymmetrical came with a...

The SEIKO tuna divers ( cermets and spring drive)

The SEIKO tuna divers ( cermets and spring drive)

I finally completed all the 3 major Seiko Prospex class divers of the serious range, i.e. made to be used, even if in gold. 1  First the gold version, made of a solid gold cermet composite, is actually, well, solid gold if you consider it is a real gold mix, just like 18k gold. Price is doubled, but you get a scratch proof gold. Exactly what I wish Richard Mille should have used in any sports watch of gold. This is most aptly coupled or carries the automatic movement, hand assembled in the prestigious Japanese Seiko studio for Grand Seiko...

My life built around ..

My life built around wife, family and parents (first) and then friends, work and livingI am much much more than a “survivor”. I am a liver and giver of life. I try my best. If you have met, spoke to me after I became a little more self aware, meaning after I met my wife and her friends, in 1983…you will agree that I am the Tom Cruise of life. The Clint Eastwood of being arrogantly elegant. I hope! Anyway..it was remarkable that Cruise does his work himself…stunts..at 53 !!! I say this with a tongue in cheek approach. I...

Macallan’s rare casks and Greubel Forsey

Macallan’s rare casks and Greubel Forsey

I love both the special rare casks of Macallan and Greubel Forsey’s approach to creating. Both these whiskey have to be of an original and undiscovered, un repeatable acts. I could only think of Greubel Forsey. Both Glenlivet and Macallan make great scotch. Here, from early July to early August, Macallan released a rare cask creation, probably not possible to remake exactly, and of a sure footed long finish neat or with just 5ml of water on 2 fingers. I am also to soon review a Glenlivet. So far..this rare cask…I have finished 2...

Rolex Oysterquartz less 2,500 made

Rolex Oysterquartz less 2,500 made

The FIRST thing you hear is that the sound of the ticking is a single precise “tic”. In a precise single second. No rebound of the hand. All 100% forward. Other quartz watches have many more tics per second. At 2,500 datejust and less day dates, even less day date solid gold presidents..a total which makes this one of the very rare and sought after Rolexes made. It was the 1970s, when the Swiss watch industry was in the middle of crisis, the very first quartz watch produced by Rolex, the Ref 5100. This watch was the fruit of...
